When Life Gives You Chocolate Milk, Make Fudgesicles

5 Jul

Supposedly, beans are the magical fruit.  (Ya’know, beans, beans, the magical fruit, the more ya eat, the more ya…well, you know the rest.)  For runners and other athletes, chocolate milk is the magical drink.  It’s got that highly touted 4:1 carbohydrate to protein ratio that’s optimal for exercise recovery.  But simply drinking a glass of chocolate milk is rather boring.  Tasty, but boring.

And that’s where these chocolate milk fudgesicles come in.

Who doesn’t love a good ol’ popsicle?  They’re simple, icy, sweet, and perfectly refreshing post-workout.  Although they’re best eaten in the hot temperatures of summer, they’re no less tasty in the winter.

They literally take a minute, if not less, to make.  In fact, I struggle to call this a “recipe” – it’s simply too simple.  Nevertheless, I will post it because it would be a travesty not to.

Chocolate Milk Fudgesicles:

  • chocolate milk*
  • popsicle molds
  1. Pour chocolate milk into popsicle molds.**  Place tray of molds into freezer for at least 5 hours, or until completely frozen.
  2. Remove tray from freezer.
  3. Place tray in hot water to loosen popsicles.  Remove them from their molds and enjoy!

* I use Silk chocolate soy milk because it has a nice consistency and doesn’t expire as quickly as cow’s milk.

** See right sidebar for popsicle molds available at Amazon.  Note: My popsicle molds held 1/3 cup.

Really and truly, one can freeze just about anything in these popsicle molds.  Here are some additional ideas:

  • soda (or is it “pop?”)
  • applesauce (if it’s thick, a little water may need to be added)
  • juice
  • yogurt + fruit
  • ice cream (dipped in chocolate, perhaps?)
  • sorbet
  • blended seedless watermelon
  • gelatin
  • pudding (into which you can mix things like crushed oreos, M&Ms, marshmallows, nuts, chocolate chips, fruit chunks, etc.)
  • left-over smoothie mixture
  • lemonade
  • sweet or chai tea
  • vanilla or other flavored milk
  • Propel, Gatorade, or other sports drink
  • “Green Monster”
  • coffee (you could add mocha syrup, creamer, sugar, etc.)

Hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday!
